| New Latah Bistro Classes
I dropped into the holiday appetizers cheese class at Saunders Cheese Market on Monday evening with food page correspondent Carolyn Lamberson. And I'm so glad we did. Chef Jeremiah Timmons of Ambrosia Bistro demonstrated recipes that were delicious and surprising. I can't decide whether my favorite was the Hot Fennel and Cheese Dip or the Goat Cheese Ice Cream topped with Sour Cherry Preserves. (Although I'm partial to the fennel dip which Timmons described at one point during the demonstration as "lovely, caramely, fennely, deliciousness.") Everything was made with the cheeses sold as Saunders and we got a nip of Riesling from the nearby Vintage Hill Cellars. Saunders won't be holding another class until January, after the holiday rush has subsided.
Frugal Norway saves for life after the boom
And yet the Big Oil companies including Talisman and Petro-Canada are there. This goes to show that Canadians can and should be demanding more of the oil profits here in Canada and should not be so easily conned by dire warnings that it will "kill the golden goose". Besides having the government oil fund, Norwegians also have their widely-respected state-owned oil company, Statoil. We used to have Petro-Canada, which according to the US Department of Energy's website, the Canadian government formed "in 1975 in an effort to reduce the dominance of U.S. companies in Canada's oil industry." So of course Mulroney began selling off Petro-Canada in 1991, and Conservative-Lite Paul Martin completed the sell-off in 2004. What they privatized for just $5.7 billion, giving taxpayers an estimated profit of just $0.75 billion, is today worth some $23 billion as valued by the markets.
HipCricket listed on London market
HipCricket went public this week on AIM, the London Stock Exchange's market for growing companies, under the ticker HIP. The Bellevue company, which helps radio and TV stations add text-messaging services to programs and advertisements, raised about $17 million in capital through the initial public offering and has a total market capitalization of $155.4 million. The stock closed at 275 pence ($5.57) Thursday, up 13 pence, or nearly 5 percent, from the IPO price of 262 pence set Monday. The company said it has aggressive growth plans that include selling its services to TV and radio and adding the companies and brands that advertise on the stations. "The additional funding puts us in an excellent position to capitalize on the increasing opportunities ahead of us, providing a strong base to grow the company organically and also fund expansion in U.S.
The petroleum economy in Texas rose again in 2007 as worldwide demand ...
The Energy Information Agency forecasts that we will be using 60 percent more hydrocarbons in 2030 than we are today. With the demand for worldwide energy rising at a rate 2.5 percent per annum, the rapid growth of economies in India and China, and the anticipated population increases in the undeveloped nations, the predicted 9 billion people on the planet will need all that can be produced from all sources. Precisely for those reasons, it is important that we not be alarmist but prudently plan and deal with our energy opportunities. In the meantime, the Texas oil and gas industry continues to work at full capacity to meet the continued and increased demand. According to recently finalized 2007 statistics of the Texas PetroIndex, 48 percent of the 1,800 rigs drilling in the U.S.
JFK’s Torch for Obama
He refuses to de-fund the war or set any time limits on it. He is against single-payer health care reform or anything resembling fair taxation. He has never put himself on the line for anything. His mindset is clearly the middle-of-the-road, don't rock the boat, protect the elite mindset that has controlled American politics since FDR. Using a little polish on a broken down pair of sneakers will not turn them into patent leather dancing shoes, and the endorsements of a few members of America's broken down royalty won't make Obama a progressive. Come on, guys. The man hasn't suddenly changed. What has changed is that, once again, the left is being suckered into supporting a center-right "liberal" because he's the best we can get. I'm just not buying that crap. Just being better than Hillary does not make a candidate palatable.

The chemistry classes will replace AP chemistry, Jones said. Jones said the high school is working with the University of Minnesota to offer a crops, environment and society course for four credits. Jones said that offering the college courses at MHS will increase opportunities for more students. And the ability to stay in our building, Jones said. And for all the CIS classes, students must qualify for PSEO status, Jones said. Parents can also stay more informed and have contact with high school teachers through these new opportunities at the high school, Jones said.
